Without calling too much attention to itself, Ando’s design creates an ongoing dialogue between the visitor and the collection. ![]() Behold: glittering skirt suits, a gown bedecked from neck to toe in chiffon camellias, colorful Fendi furs. Beyond, each room contains garments that are grouped according to the “lines”-i.e., silhouettes, themes, and obsessions-within Lagerfeld’s work, including femininity, rococo style, and military garb. ![]() The sound of Lagerfeld’s incessant scribbling pen plays on the speakers overhead as a massive video projected on the wall shows the sketches in progress. Upon entering, museumgoers get a glimpse into Lagerfeld’s creative process through a re-creation of his cluttered desk with piles of books, magazines, sketching pencils, and an always-on-hand glass of Diet Coke. ![]()
